I’m sure once summer arrives I will be able to write very long, insightful, and possibly inspiring posts. For now, however, it looks as if I must settle for quickly writing down my thoughts when I have a few minutes to spare.
During my webinar yesterday, they discussed characteristics teachers look for in a principal. Top on the list was someone who is motivating and inspiring. That caught my attention because I love leaders who are inspiring and motivating as well. What motivates me, however, might be quite different than what motivates one of my staff members. I think I will give you some insight into what motivates / inspires me.
- someone giving me the opportunity to try something new
- being told I helped someone out
- a child’s hug
- personal notes
- hearing success stories
- a smile
- people with positive spirits
- having deep conversations about school improvement
- people using my suggestions to get better at what they do
- reaching a goal after hard work
I would love to hear about what motivates and/or inspires you.

What motivates me is having a proactive model striving to do what’s right for the children. Even better, a model who demonstrates they struggle and that “things” aren’t always “easy”. Wearing a smile on the outside and striving to just do what’s right.

Having a model demonstrate the joys and struggles in daily educational life to just do what’s right for the students. Showing that things aren’t always “easy”.

Inspiring? Seeing teachers express their true joy in children 🙂

My children (students) inspire/motivate me. I love when I get the chance to just “be” with them. Not worrying about what “needs” to get done. I have really enjoyed saying good-bye to them at the end of the day out at Bus Duty. I get a chance to ask students I’ve had in the past and students I have just got to know out there how their day was. It gives me that boost that I sometimes need at the end of a day. 🙂

What motivates me?
Sometimes I feel like I’m just like the 2nd graders where a little note or sticker on my lesson plan book makes me smile!
But never underestimate the power of SPECIFIC PRAISE to the students! What motivates me is knowing specifically what I’m doing so I know to continue just that.
I’m also motivated by seeing and hearing great ideas in trainings & other classrooms. I love taking pictures of those bulletin boards, work posted, or great lessons delivered. I get motivated to rush home and turn on my laminator!
I love the collaboration part of professional learning community where I may find something new to try out.
